Bluebird Opens in Downtown Schenectady
SCHENECTADY- Bluebird Home Decor, an eclectic home goods store specializing in handmade, vintage and farmhouse product, officially opened its doors on State Street in Downtown Schenectady today.
The 1,500 square foot store is owned and operated by Nicolle Broughton. It was previously located in Troy before relocating to the Electric City in a move aimed at doubling the size of the shop.
“I couldn’t be more excited to open our doors in Schenectady,” Broughton said. “Since I first opened Bluebird more than 5 years ago the store has been evolving in a truly organic way, and this new store is the result of experiences and lessons that come from understanding my product and customer.”
Bluebird is located at 514 State Street at a building owned by Jeffrey Buell. He said Friday that the opening of Bluebird is the culmination of the Foster Hotel redevelopment.
“We consider ourselves urban pioneers and part of that challenge is working hard to creatively fill holes in the downtown fabric” Buell said. “In Schenectady, we are making a strong play for improved retail, and there is not a better person or product to bet on than Nicolle Broughton and Bluebird.”
Mayor Gary McCarthy said “We are very excited to welcome Bluebird to the renaissance of Downtown Schenectady. This is a truly wonderful addition to our community and I would like to thank Nicolle, Jeff, and our economic development team for all of your efforts to make this redevelopment possible.”
The total renovation costs for 514 State Street were $215,000, $75,000 of which was paid for by the Metroplex Development Authority. Chairman Ray Gillen said “We welcome Nicolle and her well known boutique and loyal customers to downtown Schenectady. The renovations to 514 State Street are very impressive and add to the momentum that was started by the successful redevelopment of the Foster Building.”
