CHRISTEN THE HARBOR’ CEREMONY MARKS THE COMPLETION OF THE MARINA AT MOHAWK HARBOR
Signature element of $480 million transformative mixed-use waterfront development is ready for public use and includes 50 boat slips, amphitheater, and kayak launch
November 1, 2017, SCHENECTADY, NY— Galesi Group executives today were joined by community and business leaders to “Christen the Harbor,” marking the completion and opening of the signature marina at the transformative $480 million Mohawk Harbor mixed-use development, featuring 50 boat slips, amphitheater, and kayak launch.
Galesi Group President and CEO David Buicko declared the harbor open with a nod to the traditional nautical christening ceremony in front of guests and construction partners including Bergmann Engineering, LeChase Construction, Rifenburg Companies, 260 Structural Engineering, Hershberg & Hershberg Engineering, Re4orm Architecture, Barton & Loguidice, Schenectady Hardware and Electric and The Dock Doctors.
“It’s not every day that as a community we can unite to turn a decades old brownfield into a signature super-regional destination that’s a hub for commerce, recreation, arts and culture,” said Galesi Group President and CEO David Buicko. “Mohawk Harbor will be a gateway to the revitalized Schenectady, finally providing river access to the public, bridging the waterfront to Downtown, and providing the tens of thousands of boaters who pass by annually a first-class facility to dock and enjoy new hotels, dining, and access to Rivers Casino & Resort.”
“Mohawk Harbor was a bold vision when it was first unveiled, the only man-made harbor on the Erie Canal,” said Schenectady County Legislature Chairman Anthony Jasenski. “Today, we celebrate the construction of this marvelous feat of engineering and the creation of what will be a regional tourist destination bringing thousands of people to relax, shop, eat, stay and visit over and over again.”
“Mohawk Harbor is the signature economic development project in the Capital Region and arguably all of Upstate New York and we are thrilled it is happening right here in Schenectady,” said Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy. “With unprecedented growth and new jobs, new features like Mohawk Harbor and Rivers Casino & Resort enhance our already vibrant entertainment and restaurant scene, making Schenectady a city on the move.”
As the largest waterfront development in Upstate New York, Mohawk Harbor creates the first-ever maritime gateway to all of Schenectady’s attractions and amenities including new hotels, Rivers Casino & Resort, and its vibrant restaurant scene.
