Statement by Schenectady County Officials on CDTC Project Funding
Schenectady, N.Y., June 2, 2016 — Mayor Gary McCarthy said, “Getting $1.5 million to pave Erie Boulevard from Union Street to the new roundabout is great news for Schenectady. This was one of our highest priorities. This funding will build upon our success at the $480 million Mohawk Harbor project and create a better linkage from Downtown to the City’s north side.
I want to thank City Engineer Chris Wallin for his work in obtaining this funding and express our gratitude to CDTC for their strong support for our revitalization efforts and transportation priorities here in Schenectady.
Mayor McCarthy added, “We are also very pleased that our request to fund the replacement of the Kings Road Bridge was also approved for $3.8 million and we are very pleased to see $1.2 million included for repaving of Broadway between Weaver and Fourth Streets. This money will complete the City’s goal of repaving the entire Broadway corridor from the City line to State Street. These projects will improve a major gateway to Schenectady at Kings Road and help our neighborhood improvement efforts with Broadway paving.”
Anthony Jasenski, Chairman of the Schenectady County Legislature said, “The County is thankful to CDTC for approving these investments of more than $1.3 million in Rotterdam and Glenville. The investment of $216,000 for the hike/bike trail in Rotterdam will allow us to make needed improvements to the trail that is so popular with residents and visitors. We will also be able to maintain the safety of our roadways with $411,000 for repaving of Sunnyside Road in Glenville and $769,000 for news sidewalks on Highbridge Road from Bradt Elementary School to the new Kings Road bridge.”
