Albany Medical Center Announces Plans to Expand Services and Partnerships in Schenectady County with a State-of-the-Art Ambulatory Care Center in Niskayuna

Slated to Open in 2016, Facility Will Offer Outpatient Surgery, Endoscopy, Urgent Care Center and More

Albany, N.Y., Sept. 14, 2015 — Albany Medical Center today announced plans for a comprehensive Ambulatory Care Center on Upper Union Street in Niskayuna offering outpatient surgery, endoscopy, urgent care, laboratory services and convenient access to expert specialists in a wide range of disciplines.

In addition to providing new offices for Albany Med’s gastroenterologists and general surgeons currently practicing in Schenectady and Niskayuna, the facility will offer ambulatory surgery and endoscopy services in a more than 27,000 square-foot building. Other Albany Med expert specialists are also expected to see patients at the site.

“Albany Med is working to make our comprehensive network of experts and services more accessible to residents throughout the Capital Region,” said Ferdinand Venditti, M.D., vice dean for clinical affairs at Albany Medical Center and head of the Albany Med Faculty Physicians Group. “At this site, and at all of our Schenectady County locations, using the expertise and technology that Albany Med is known for, patients will receive the highest quality care available in our region.”

The new Ambulatory Care Center will also house an Albany Med EmUrgentCare facility operated in partnership with CapitalCare Medical Group, Schenectady County’s leading provider of primary care services. This joint venture in urgent care builds on prior partnerships between the two groups. Albany Med’s EmUrgentCare model is a walk-in urgent care practice open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., 365 days a year, offering treatment by emergency medicine-trained providers.

“We are pleased to work in partnership with Albany Medical Center to offer high-quality Urgent Care to Niskayuna and the surrounding communities. This convenient location will greatly enhance access to these services, which are an important adjunct to the primary care services we provide,” said Joan Hayner, chief executive officer of CapitalCare Medical Group.

This will be Albany Medical Center’s fifth venture in Schenectady County. These ventures include:

  • Acquiring the Digestive Disease Associates of Schenectady (June, 2014);
  • Opening an EmUrgentCare site in the Socha Plaza in Glenville (August, 2014);
  • Providing Endocrine services at River Road in Niskayuna in partnership with CapitalCare Medical Group (September, 2014); and
  • Offering general surgical practices in partnership with Dr. David Ford, a general surgeon for many years in Schenectady, who joined the Albany Med Faculty group while continuing to practice in Schenectady (January, 2015).

“This new medical office facility is a great addition to the Upper Union Street neighborhood,” said Niskayuna Town Supervisor Joe Landry. “The Town has worked closely with the developer and we are pleased to see this project moving forward.”

“Upper Union Street is a gateway to Schenectady County and this neighborhood business district is thriving.  This project brings more jobs and investment to our community,” said Ray Gillen, Chair of the Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority.

The Niskayuna property to be developed at 1769 Union Street is owned by Lou Lecce and will be developed by Lecce Development Company, LLC.

“As a Niskayuna resident, I am thrilled to partner with Albany Medical Center to bring their comprehensive health care services to our community,” said Lou Lecce, President and CEO of Lecce Development Company, LLC. “This project was designed to provide convenient and more widespread access to Albany Med’s team of specialists and we are proud to help bring that vision to fruition.”

Additional design and construction firms involved in this project include: C2 Design Architecture, P.C. of Schenectady, Woodward Connor Gillies & Seleman Architects of Albany, M.J. Engineering and Land Surveying, P.C. of Clifton Park, and Hyman Hayes Associates, LLC of Albany.

Construction on the facility is set to begin this fall and is slated for completion in September 2016.
