Schenectady County to Host Public Meeting to Discuss Bike Trail Project

(Schenectady County, NY) April 21, 2015 –  Schenectady County will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 to discuss the proposed riverside bike trail through the Mohawk Harbor site in the City of Schenectady. The meeting will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Schenectady County Library’s McChesney Room, 99 Clinton Street in downtown Schenectady.

The ALCO Mohawk River Multi-Use Trail project is funded in partnership with the New York State Department of State and the New York State Canal Corporation through Governor Cuomo’s Regional Economic Development Council.

The project involves construction of approximately 1.3 miles of multi-use path along the north side of Maxon Road from the Mohawk-Hudson Bike Trail at Technology Drive to Freeman’s Bridge/Erie Boulevard and through the Mohawk Harbor site to River Street.

The project is part of a County effort to connect the regional Mohawk-Hudson Bike Trail and statewide Canalway Trail to improve bike/hike options for County residents and visitors.  The project will significantly improve the continuity of the off road trail system by providing a safe alternative route for trail users wishing to remain off busy local streets and travel along the river. The project will also improve public access to the Mohawk River and is a key component of the Mohawk Harbor mixed-use redevelopment.

The proposed trail plans will be available for review at the meeting. A brief presentation on the project will take place at 6:30 PM followed by public comment.
