Schenectady, N.Y., March 3, 2016 – Schenectady leaders today announced that 4-6 River Street in Schenectady’s East Front Street neighborhood adjoining Mohawk Harbor will be renovated. The building is now vacant and is an eyesore in the neighborhood.

SJM Realty Company will purchase the building and renovate it into six modern apartments.  The private developer will invest over $500,000 in the project. Metroplex will provide a $25,000 façade improvement grant.

Saverio Minucci from SJM Realty said, “I am very happy and proud to be working with Metroplex again on another great project in Schenectady.”

Metroplex worked with Mr. Minucci and his partner to renovate the former MVP building on lower State Street into 31 apartments. Mr. Minucci is also a partner in the project that will convert the former Williams Auto Parts site in Niskayuna into a new $20 million residential development on the Mohawk River.

Schenectady County Legislature Chair Anthony Jasenski said, “This renovation of a vacant eyesore is another win for our neighborhoods.  We thank Mr. Minucci for this new investment in the East Front Street neighborhood and his continued investment in Schenectady County.”

Mayor Gary McCarthy said, “When we announced the Mohawk Harbor project, we hoped it would spur additional investment and that is now happening to the benefit of City neighborhoods.”

Metroplex Chair Ray Gillen said, “The 1.6 mile trail along the Mohawk River that the County is building will be a great community asset and we hope it spurs additional investment in Schenectady County.”
